Healing Wise ...

The Equinox

Light. Dark.

Dark. Light.

Light. Dark.

On a planet with a tilted axis (the only kind that can support life according to E. O. Wilson), there are only two days a year when the length of the day and the length of the night are the same. Those days are called equinoxes. Equi = equal. Nox = night.

At equinox, we stand with a foot in each world: The world of light, of summer, of warmth. The world of dark, of winter, of cold. We stand between the worlds on this day. We look back at the season past; we look ahead to the new season.

Time for a shift. Time to finish harvesting. Time to stack the firewood, gather the kindling, store the hay, get ready for the leaves to turn and then to fall. Fall! Fall. Leaves are starting to fall. It is time to fall.

Time to fall on the earth with joy; time to fall all over ourselves with thanksgiving; time to fall back on the support of the plants; time to fall over with love; time to fall through the space of fundamental consciousness. Fall!

I have had a busy and delightful two weeks: First at the Goddess Festival in California, and then at home, at the Wise Woman Center, teaching about Magical Plants and Holy Ferments. Come with me to California to weaves a laurel wreath and join with your sisters in the Spiral of Life.

And here is where you will find a few tips from our Magical Plants workshop.

Next stop: the Wild Wise Woman Gathering in Kansas. Then a month a home (with more classes and the last moonlodge of the year) followed by the long voyage to Australia. I hope to see you on my travels or here at my home.

Green blessings are everywhere.
Susun

Magical Plants

Lavender

These California lavenders caught my eye. How many bees can you find? Lavender magic opens the gates of deep memory. Use lavender in a dream pillow to dream of past lives. Keep a lavender plant by your computer to sharpen your concentration and help you remember. Grow lavender along the path to trigger visionary states.

Orchid Iris

Another cultivated California plant that caught my eye: A most extraordinary iris. Some people call it an orchid. So I have dubbed it the orchid iris. Look into the heart of this flower. Look deeply into the lavender-colored inner petals and let the spots of yellow dance in your peripheral vision. The small red spots draw you in and touch your heart. What do you see? What do you feel? How does your body respond? There is magic in a flower, there is magic in nature, there is magic in the moments of our lives.

Ladies Love Potion

You can buy hawthorn, organic cacao and kava kava root powders from Frontier or Mountain Rose.

  • 1 cup organic cacao powder
  • ¼ cup kava kava root powder
  • ½ cup hawthorn berries, ground to a powder
  • wildflower or any local honey
  • 100 proof vodka

Mix cacao and powdered herbs together. Add honey and vodka alternately, to taste, until of a syrup-like consistency. Think chocolate sauce. Not too thick, not too thin, just right. Right?
